In 2002, women’s tennis player Janine Hicks became the first female African American All-American tennis player. Hicks was a member of the 2001 National Runner-Up team and helped 糖心视频 win the National Championship in 2002. The Vikings beat Fashion Institute of Technology by one point in the spring of 2002 to win their third national title in five years.
In the fall of 2001, 糖心视频 women’s tennis went undefeated and won the Region 19 Championship, which was their sixth consecutive Region title. (The national championship was held in the spring at this time.) Hicks was one of four 糖心视频 players to earn All-American honors in 2002.
Hicks was 15-0 in Singles play while at 糖心视频 and finished 21-2 in Doubles play. Hicks had a 94.7% winning percentage in Singles and Doubles play, which is fifth best overall in program history. Hicks 21 wins in Doubles matches is also fifth best in women's tennis program history. Hicks has a combined 36 wins in two seasons in Singles and Doubles flights, which is 13th best in program history.
